Membership

Mosman Bowling Club prides itself on having a large and vibrant membership of some 200 active members.

Whilst the total number of members is important, the number of members who participate both on the greens and at social events is more important, and continues to be very strong.

Social Programme

The club arranges a variety of activities to provide entertainment and fun for its members.  For example:

  • Music and dance evenings, for example listening to “Elvis” and enjoying Pizzas
  • Monthly BBQ Burger nights, with about 40 of our members regularly remaining after bowls on the Wednesday to enjoy the best burgers in Mosman.
  • Melbourne Cup bowls and lunch events, including the traditional sweeps
  • Monthly Book Club meetings
  • Annual Christmas Luncheon, Australia Day and Anzac Day commemorations and other notable days
  • Members luncheons for both our ladies and gentlemen.

Notably, at least annually, a large group of members embark on a road trip to a part of Australia, or even overseas, during which they can enjoy each other’s company in a new environment.  Recent examples include visits to Ballina, the Barossa, and Lake Conjola.  Of course, Bowls also takes centre stage in these excursions, with competitive matches arranged against local clubs.

Social Bowling

Social bowls is the lifeblood of the club, and it is not uncommon to see both of our manicured greens fully occupied with over 70 bowlers on our regular Wednesday and Saturday afternoon bowling days.  Of course, these days are also a magnet for those who enjoy our traditional Afternoon Tea service of tea and home-made scones!

Our greens are also available to our members for social games and roll-ups on any other day except Monday, which are reserved for our dedicated greenkeepers to ensure our greens are maintained in pristine condition.

A fully licensed bar also ensures that the good times continue long after the social bowling is completed.

Competitive Bowling

Last, but definitely not least, Mosman Bowling Club is an active participant in inter-club and regional events.

At our club we host the Alex MacPherson Carnival, the Greenhorn, the Norma Field Top 5, the Waterman Trophy, the Jack Harkness and the Biannual Mosman Festival Open Day.  The Waterman Trophy has the distinction of being one of the oldest competitive Lawn Bowling competitions in Australia, and is also designed to ensure that Mosman can never win!

The club also puts forward several highly competitive teams in inter-club Pennants competitions, covering Women, Men and Open events.  For example, in 2024/25, our Women’s Grade 2 side won the Metro North-East Region Pennant and represented the club with distinction at the State Finals at Figtree.

We also compete strongly in Regional Competitions, and we were proud to be able to send three teams to the State Finals in Ballina in 2025.

Supporting this is our regular program of internal competitions and regular coaching and player development activities.
